Paris, 8pm: OFFICIAL - FRANCOIS HOLLANDE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF FRANCE
Becomes first Socialist President since Francois Mitterrand left office in 1988.
Incroyable.
52% of the vote to Sarko’s 48%. He’s the first incumbent in France in three decades to not win re-election and the ninth eurozone leader to fall in two years.
Extras, for anybody interested: Hollande’s election team has/had a Tumblr, for the French speakers on here. Also, earlier this week I wrote about the far-right’s role in French politics this election. Hollande may have won, but we haven’t seen the last of Le Pen and the Front National this year…

On this day in 1789, George Washington delivered the first Presidential Inaugural Address.
George Washington’s first inauguration took place at Federal Hall in New York City, where the first Congress was assembled. Keenly aware of the momentousness of the occasion, Washington accepted the Presidency and spoke of his determination to make the American experiment a success. All eight pages of the speech delivered to Congress are in George Washington’s own clear and distinctive handwriting.
Here are images of the opening of George Washington’s first inaugural address, April 30, 1789; and a portrait of President Washington hanging in the Oval Office of the White House, 11/5/1946. ID #199469
In Chapter 3 of How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed, Slavenka Drakulić discusses make- up and other crucial questions. In a Communist State, cosmetics were extremely limited; there were only a few shades of lipstick, one type of cream, and only one brand of shampoo. Women were forced to use supplies such as corn flour, olive oil, and black tea for cosmetic purposes. The Communist State believed that tasks like industrialization and electrification should be focused on, and that aesthetics were ‘bourgeois.’ Slavenka argues that the abolishment of aesthetics was the government’s way of limiting individualism. By limiting products, the Communist State created a fashion where everyone looked the same and wore the same clothes. If more cosmetics were available to women, it might have changed lives, for women wanted to feel beautiful. Cosmetics and beautiful clothes would cheer them up in a depressing life. In addition, images of clothes and cosmetics in non- Communist magazines would make women hate their reality, and they would risk their own lives to escape. Communism has failed to take care of women; the government promised equal rights, yet it has failed to make women feel beautiful. It has failed to provide bare necessities, such as sanitary napkins. Women deserve more respect because it is hard being one when the system is constantly against you.

We Are The Savvy Savants.

The military is the deadliest force in the United States of America. It drains the life and the moral spirit of society.
It’s easy to complain about other nations. Politicians and social justice asses whine about the governments of Sudan, Iraq, and Afghanistan handing out guns to their children. The image is very terrifying: young boys with limited knowledge of the world, morality, and maturity are given the proper tools to cause mass destruction. But, the hypocrisy of Americans is unbearable— the U.S. military is doing just the same. Welcome to the JROTC program.
In your local high schools, the military is stuffing pure shit into the heads of teenagers through this program. Targeting students as young as fourteen for military recruitment is garbage. For four years, teachers encourage students to give up their lives to kill other people. America loves watching war— brainwash kids for a couple of years, hand out guns, and then send them off to kill brown children in foreign lands.
First, mothers and fathers watch nationalistic views that look and smell like diarrhea being poured down the throats of children. Then, parents send the young to fight. With a blink of an eye, a son or a daughter is back on U.S. soil. Inside of a plastic bag.
While old fools are “legislating” in Congress, the younger generation is dying in lands across the ocean. God bless America, and good night.

Hypocrisy.
That’s all I have to say.
